9" lens bellows extension?

Is there a way I can figure how much bellows I will need using a 9" lens on a whole plate camera for head and shoulder portraits?

Decide how what magnification you'll need, then calculate total extension = f * (m + 1)

That's the film plane-to-rear node distance; for most, not all, lenses the rear node is near the diaphragm.
