Just a heads up for anyone looking for a bargain lens. Don't know much about them...

"Our understanding is that these are the same model that was used to make the eyes for the Johnny 5 Robot in the movie "Short Circuit"."

Now that is very useful information.

I'm sure they're ok lenses, although I don't think they fit straight into a Wollensak shutter; anyone know better?

I use one as a macro lens with lens caps for shutter. At f/32 it is really nice.

Thanks for the tip.

I bought one, why not.

I will try that, shot some macro last night.

Good idea!

The lens is no longer available. SS said it was an old link and they sold out some time ago...

Oh poop, my apologies...

They even let me order it and then cancelled.

No biggie, it's the thought that counts!

Yup. I tried to order one from that link Friday afternoon. Bummer. They show up regularly on Ebay, but go for much higher prices.

This is an old thread, but in case anyone is curious where all those surplus 209mm Raptar Copy Lenses suddenly disappeared to: https://youtu.be/iGx1yy8hNYY

For those of you who don’t care to sit through the video, I’ll summarize: all of the remaining lenses were purchased as a strategic reserve of Johnny 5 robot eyes.

In the spirit of necro-thread revival...
They screw directly in to an Alphax #4.
BTW, the 209 Copy Raptar is the same as a regular 209 Raptar with the cells switched from front to back.

Wollensak shows the Raptar Copy Lens design in their ~1962 booklet “Raptar Lenses for the Graphic Arts.”

Whir-Click's catalog illustration shows a Tessar design in a normal order...
