Mystery lens board

I haven't the foggiest idea what camera this would be for, maybe a process camera ?
It's quite heavy duty, seems to me, to be cast aluminum, 4.5" x 4.5" x .25 thick,
machined raised surfaces, a nice golden crinkle finish on the recessed side,
the other side is flat and painted black.

Any ideas ?

Yes, probably a process camera lens board. These have to carry the weight of a heavy lens and the, just as heavy, prism.
