A friend of mine is going to Tokyo for two weeks and I would love to try some Acros in 8x10. Does anyone know any real store that stocks it? If you do could you give me some details of where it is. Thanks in advance.

If you search for a thread on 8x10 Acros, an upstanding member here bought a bunch of us some of the film in 8x10 at a store in Japan. The thread should say where he bought it.

I remember Yodobashi Camera in Shinjuku was (and may still be) the Japanese temple of all things photographic.

They also had smaller, but no less well-equipped stores dotted around the Tokyo 'satellite' suburbs.

It will be good if your friend can report back on what they find in the 'film' department!

Try contacting these guys: http://www.japanexposures.com/shop/

It is an online-based store that is run by a couple of American or European ex-pats (not sure which but they are native English speakers/writers). I am a research assistant for an artist who was just in Japan on a month-long shooting trip. She needed to get some specific 4x5 sheet film. It wasn't listed in their store but I emailed them and they were amazingly helpful. They sourced it, set up a store item for me to purchase, and arranged next-day delivery all in about 24 hours. You can contact Dirk Rosler (dirk@japanexposures.com) or Kurt Easterwood (kurt@japanexposures.com) directly. They seem to tag-team, so if you email them you should probably email both at once and let them sort out who will action your request.

I get the sense that your friend hasn't left yet, but they can probably send it to the place where your friend will be staying so it will be waiting for them when they arrive. Since this seems to be for your friend to bring back home for you to use there, you may actually just be able to get japanexposures to find the film and ship it to you directly and save the hassle.

Failing all else they will certainly know exactly which store in Tokyo for your friend to go to.

Good luck!
