First timer in sepia toning.
I'm using the Fotospeed odorless kit (st20)
So the question is -- should I expect the bleaching process to result in a completely white sheet? Or is it normal to have some residue of light shadows. The prints sat in the bleach for about 3 min. and never went below a very pale grey.

Thanks in advance.

If I'm not mistaken, the Fotospeed st20 is a thiourea sepia toning. This means
that
1) you can bleach completely the copy, although it never gets totally white, but a rather
pale yellow or
2) you can bleach only the highlights, preserving the shadows or midtones.

So in any case it is normal that the copy retains some pale image.

Best,
Pau

That's what I saw -- pale yellow/grayish residual image.
Toned up great!
Thanks,

George
