View Full Version : Latoya Ruby Frazier
Anyone near Brooklyn should check out Frazier's solo show (http://www.nytimes.com/2013/03/29/arts/design/latoya-ruby-frazier-photography-at-brooklyn-museum.html?_r=0) at the Brooklyn Museum.
Really nicely put together, pointed show by someone I'm going to keep an eye on.
Looks like 4x5 b+w, printed with a sooty bleakness that fits the subject so well you hardly notice it.

Interesting. My bad. I guessed 4x5 because a lot of the landscape pics looked like they were made with movements.

Could be MF T&S lens?
Coulda been. Or I might have just read them wrong. It's interesting ... while not a major point, the camera choice influences my perception of the work. Her project is extremely intimate ... almost uncomfortably so, the way she situates herself and the viewer in the midst of these very personal and often unhappy moments. One picture in particular, at the funeral of her grandmother (who we see alive in many of the preceding photographs) led me to imagine the relationship she must have with her family and community, not just as a member but as an artist. I imagined the camera set up on a tripod in front of the casket, and everyone being ok with this. It's a slightly different sensibility with a small camera than with big one.
