Hi,

I am new to this forum, and i am a lens enthusiast (addict).

Normally i find post war lenses. (40/50/60/70/80). but once in a while u find really old glass.
And i want to know as much that i can about the lenses i own.

That is why i joined this forum.

I have two lenses i can not wrap my head around.
(second one ill make a new post so there is no confusion).

first up.

Rectilineaire Extra Rapide J.D.E f=28cm

my toughs:

Its french ( rapid->rapide)
I did some research and the only french makers that i can come up whit is Jamin-Darlot (J.D.E (no idea what the E stands for).
the black paint used looks allot like other Jamin-Darlot.
But somehow i feel i am very far from the trough

extra info:
no serial
There is an A written on the side of the back element.

92582

Any input and thoughts are very much appreciated.

I can't help you with JDE.

But it couldn't be Jamin-Darlot e....... because:

-RR/aplanats came after the Jamin name was given up.
-Darlot's aplanats had very fancy tradenames!

The 1890's was the period of abreviations in France - MF,SGO etc. and I think this comes from the same period.
It would help if could work out the F value as "extra rapide" could be from F5.6 to F8.

Not sure of the maker, but I might suggest its J D C not "E"

a question more than an opinion... could the initials be a distributer rather than a maker ?
