It will not cover 8x10.

how can one know these things, or can you calculate it? is it lens-dependent ...? I also have nikkor 240mm and that one largely covers 8x10.
Could the Krauss be a coated lens?

It is lens dependent. f/4.5 Tessars cover ~ 110 % of their focal length. That's what f/4.5 Tessars do, it is inherent in the design. Your 240 Nikkor is a plasmat; modern lenses of that class, depending on vintage and maker, cover from 62 degrees to 75 degrees.

If you had a ray-tracing program and the lens' prescription you could calculate coverage. See www.dioptrique.info

Krauss merged with Barbier, Benard & Turenne in the mid-1930s and the Krauss name was replaced by BBT-Krauss. Your lens wasn't coated when sold, may have been coated after WW-II.

Hi, thx for the explanation. Just found a pdf on the net explaining things as well about Zeiss lenses (http://www.arnecroell.com/czj.pdf). So I will not make the bid on ebay for this lens. The search in on again ... ;o)
