I have a zeiss jena 165mm 2.7 in pretty good shape and I am trying to figure out its scarcity (or lack thereof) and ultimately, its value. I have it mounted into a compound shutter that is a direct fit and works perfectly and I also have it attached to a linhof board via a custom machned tube/board that I had made. That being said, it works flawlessly and you can use it on your field camera no problem. I have someone interested in purchasing it from me and I just need some help gauging what to value it at so I don't get taken for a ride.

Let me know.

This will probably go against the grain, but why don't you put it on eBay and let the someone bid against the world for it?

yeah, could but its a friend and neither of us know the value so, just trying to figure it out.

Not rare, but not as common as their faster brethren. I see them for sale normally in focusing mounts, but I can't say I have seen one for sale in a shutter. Anyhow, as I recall, the the focusing mounted ones were selling for about $200 to $300 a year or so ago.

Recently one has sold for $150 through bidding.

Really? Only $150? With a shutter? Bummer.

Did you do an ebay search? That should have been your first stop: http://www.ebay.com/csc/i.html?_from=R40&_sacat=0&_nkw=tessar+2.7&LH_Complete=1&LH_Sold=1&rt=nc

Looks like they range from $150 to $500 in barrel. You can probably double that range for shutter.

Hollis - I saw one in shutter go for about $800 on eBay last year. I bid on it but didn't win. Seems like a nice lens. Good luck - if you put it up for sale in the Classifieds I'd be interested possibly.
