Hello all,

I have here a 240mm/5.5 TeleArton that came in a very nice #2 shutter.
The lens cells very damaged (scratches) and I don't appreciate tele lenses.
So I was starting to think I could maybe look for cells that would fit this nice shutter.

So far, my Google searches have taken me to a few post here and at Apug and I found that these would fit: a 165mm/6.8 Angulon, a 240mm/5.6 Symmar convertible, and a 180/4.5 Xenar.

I already a 165mm Angulon and a 180mm Tessar from Jena that should very similar to this Xenar.

Does anyone knows something interesting that is not a tele lens that would fit this shutter besides a 240mm convertible Symmar?

Are you sure you don't want a 240/420? I happen to have cells minus the shutter.

Ok, we can talk about it, but I still would like to know other possibilities! Thanks!

As far as lenses simply screwing into the shutter, there are two critical dimensions - threads and spacing. Both of these must match the shutter the lens cells were originally mounted in, this holds for all lenses and shutters. The Compur 2 was discontinued some 40 - 50 years ago, and I'm not certain it was standardised as were the other sizes, i.e. Compur/Copal 0, 1, and 3. The Compur 2 has somewhat of a bad reputation, somewhat undeserved, because it's as good functionally as any other Compur - which is to say very, very, good.

Yes, spacing seems like a big problem.
On SKGrimes website they describe one Compur #2 as having 26.5mm length (cell spacing).
On Ole's post here on LFPF he gives a 25mm length.
My shutter is at 25.5mm.

Most -- but not all -- Repro Claron 305's fit very nicely. Terrific lens if you shoot 4X5 or 5X7.

I have two lenses in two different Compur #2 shutters: an 18cm f/4.5 Xenar and a 210mm f/5.5 Hugo Meyer Doppel-Anastigmat, and they are nowhere near interchangeable. The Xenar cells are much larger in diameter than the Meyer cells. The mounting flange thread diameters are different as well. So I suppose it depends on which Compur #2 configuration you have when it comes to which cells will fit.

My 355mm f9 Repro-Claron is mounted in Compur 2, and I do have a spare shutter for it as well.

I have used it on 8x10.

The Compur 2 came in multiple thread and tube sizes although yours, the Compur 2-5/II (aka Compur II 5/2), is the commonest one that Schneider used. The post war 165 Angulon, 240/420 Symmar, 135/3.5 Xenar and 150/2.8 Xenotar all use that shutter. The 180/4.5 Xenar used the larger Compur 2-6/II. I have a 1935 Schneider catalog that lists a Compur II, Compur IIS, Compur II 4/2, Compur II 5, Compur II 5/2, Compur II 6/1 and Compur II 6/2 so it is a bit of a minefield.

Don't know about that particular version of the Compur #2, but I have a 14" R.D. Artar in a Compur #2 (not sure which model Compur #2 though). Makes for an extraordinarily light weight lens ideal for backpacking.

Yes, this is what I remembered but couldn't find a reference.

Remember that there is also a tendency to lump everything into Compur 2, if it isn't one of the other "standard" sizes.

But Paul, the tube length is supposed to be what?

But Paul, the tube length is supposed to be what?

From Ole's table of shutter sizes:
A Compur 2-5/II has cell threads that are 45.8 x 40 t.p.i. (front and back) and flange threads that are 50 x 29 1/13 t.p.i. The overall length from the front of the front tube to the back of the back tube is 25mm.
