Hello,

It is my intention to try to adapt 2 Ilford 500S head on a Durst 184
Without removing the condensers housing in witch I will insert a diffusion box.
Can someone who have a Durst Lacobox 10x10 mixing box will be able to tell me the exact dimensions of that box. Maybe I can adapt an existing mixing box.
If it don't fit, I will do one. Any recommendations for this project:
- The material for the box wall panels?
- The form of the box?
1 box in cone form?
or something like this http://www.ebay.com/itm/160973451434 in two boxes, 1 cone box on top + 1 square box at bottom with a diffusion between?
With or without a second diffusion sheet near the neg?

Is that an 8x10 Ilford head? Why can't you mount it the way it was supposed to be mounted?

This is a very nice part to have but no, unfortunately I cannot find an 8x10 Ilford head, the 500HLE look to be very rare (even if one sit in a corner in that thread http://www.largeformatphotography.info/forum/showthread.php?95528 !)
If anyone who have an Ilford 8x10 head not in use, I will be interested. I post a WTB some months ago without results.

So as I have some Ilford multigrade head in 4x5 size, the 500S model, I will try to mix 2 units over the condensers housing with a mixing box in place of the condensers.
A mixing box like the one who came with the old Durst CLS 300 color head as can be seen here http://www.glennview.com/durst.htm (the whole enlarger with the color head and second image is the diffusion box alone) so that Durst Lacobox 10x10 mixing box maybe fit in this space or be adapted to fit. I will like to know the dimensions, for not buying one if it is not the good size.

The condenser housing dimensions of the Durst 184 are : 14 1/4" X 14 1/4" X 7" in height.
Can someone who have a Durst 300 or 301 color head can tell me the dimensions of the Durst Lacobox 10x10 mixing box. Front panel is not important (probably can be cut or changed), it is the diffusion box that need to fit into the condenser space. A close-up picture will be appreciated.

Seems like an elaboarate project.

A few years back there was a CLS 300 or CLS 301 head available for not much money except for a long drive. I inquired about it but was never able to make the drive to get it. Maybe it is still available: http://www.largeformatphotography.info/forum/showthread.php?58327-FS-Durst-L184-10x10&p=567169&viewfull=1#post567169

Ginette, I will send you the dimensions later today.

On a similar note, and this may have been brought up by others, has anyone tried using strip LEDs (http://www.leevalley.com/en/hardware/Page.aspx?p=70326&cat=3,43629,70322http://) as a light source?

Blair indicate me the size but the Durst box is really too high to cut into. As the inside look plastic as he told me and as I'm pretty fluent with plexiglas I will make my own with Mirror Plexiglas and thin MDF for the structure and front panel.

The housing without condensers look like this
91167
Height is 7".

I think I will try to make a diffusion box in 2 sections. The top tapered as the top opening is smaller and the lower section square with a diffuser between the 2 sections.
The bottom will be at full size of the housing 14"x14".

Something similar to 91168

If someone try to do this, comments will be appreciated.
