Heads up if you are buying a Gitzo Systematic tripod

I just bought a Gitzo Systematic Series 5 for my Master Technika, it replaced my Mountaineer series 1. When I went to put my Bogen 410 head on it the tilt knob impacted the large mounting plate on the tripod and would not allow me to tilt up past 5-degrees or so. It's not just an issue with the Series 5, but with all of the Systematic line.

The only option is to buy a riser or a leveling base to put between the tripod and head, or buy a new head (I bought a new head)

Gitzo will sell you individual plates. I think their 1 series is the same size as Bogen. Just unscrew and replace!

just put the camera on there backwards to tilt up. the head is the same on most tripods

I re-read and sounds like you're not using a center column - the plates for the center column can be interchanged...

Put a spacer (or a panning clamp to act as a spacer) beneath the 410?

Being a "Systematic" tripod, the top plate should be capable of being swapped out for a center column, especially on a tripod as large as a 5-series...

I agree with the statement of putting a "spacer between the tripod head's base, and the top of the mounting plate. This might need to be as simple as a block of aluminum drilled/tapped on the bottom for 3/8-16, and the top drilled/tapped for 3/8-16 as well, with a threaded brass(recommended) "stud" to mate with your tripod head. Not very hard for a machinist to turn out, if you can't do it yourself with hand tools, at home.
