    wot is this?

got this lens at an estate sale - it was/is on a Brand 17 4x5 camera

full disclosure - I will probably end up selling it if it is not cool or rare...but not right now anyway

it's sitting in a dial set..compound?? shutter and the only markings on the lens part say: Lens Made In France (in english)

and there is no back part ..just the part that screws into the front... it focuses okay and seems to be slightly wide..like 120mm or so

anyone come across this lens before??

Someone cut some threads in the back of a mid-century aluminum-barreled projection lens to use as a portrait lens? I've had a couple that were mounted behind the shutter.

I was pretty sure it was something like that.... but just in case it was some special highly desired thing with magical properties or something - thought I'd ask

It is a highly desired magical thing that will grant your every wish if you rub it with a special magical polishing cloth. Be sure to stand back, though. Word has it that it goes *POOF!* with a rather large puff of smoke that leaves a bit of ash. Some of the embers have been known to start small fires. And you don't want the Genie landing on you. He's rather obese.
