    Hello from Victoria B.C.

I have been visiting the site for a few months now, reading articles and posts. Huge amount of info. on this site. I joined to be able to look at the for sale section, well 3 more weeks to go. I decided that building a camera would be a good way to really get to know your gear. So far the bellows are done for an 8x10. All the info came from this site.Attachment 11951

Post some pictures when you get it done! I just looked at some pictures of an 11X14 that another LF'er built! Awesome! I wish I had the time to do a project like this

Hello Albert! I respect anybody that takes the time to build a camera. I wimped out and bought a Shen-Hao 8x10 instead.

Hi Albert! It seems to be a small world here in cyberspace, I'm also from Victoria. Looking forward to seeing how your camera turns out. I've only been doing large format for a short time, with a Toyo studio camera I cobbled together from bits and pieces acquired from various auctions. I've enjoyed enough that I just ordered a Shen-Hao 4X5 field camera.

Hi Albert. I'll be out there soon myself as my wife is starting a PhD at U Vic; maybe we'll meet at some point, or start a Victoria LF Users' group.

    Welcome to the forum.

    Hello Albert and welcome-
I've seen the instructions for bellows construction,
but have been a little intimidated-
what material did you choose, and from where?
the links seem a little outdated,
    though I haven't checked in a while-

    Hello Joseph,

I used a material thats used for boat tops, the brand name is sunbrella. That was used for the outer layer. The stiffeners were cut from a roll of 70# drawing paper that I had.
The inner layer came from the fabric store, its blackout curtain lining, it only comes in white so I painted it black. I made a cardboard model first. Overall it worked out pretty well. The total thickness of the three layers is more than factory made. Fully compressed it measures 3.5 inches and extended it measures about 36 inches.
    I would do it again.

Victoria here as well. (Home and studio in the bedroom community of Sooke in fact)

Would love to see a large format group here as well. Particularly those with an interest in landscape imaging as well as scanning and digital printing. Didn't know there so many here locally.
