Sorry for the low res of the image. It is from a 4x5 negative that I print to 20" in the longest dimension...works very well in that size. I have also printed the image full-frame -- the image I posted is only the bottom half of the negative -- there is nothing but trees in the upper half of the image, with that curved tree continuing its arc.
Frank -- redwood bark is relatively soft with no splinters.
Rick -- one never knows what one will find! I took this in 1986. The fallen redwood is now a forest of its own -- completely covered with huckleberries and other berries and young trees growing right off the fallen tree.
a simple form in 4x5..
Kala on wood (no splinters....)
Gandolfi,
That's just terrific. She did very well not to recieve any splinters.
Gandolfi, that is just a beautiful straight portrait. The similar tone throughout makes for a very cohesive, restful image. I do suggest, though, that the model eat a few hamburgers.

It's a great photo, and the perfect model for that pose.
+1 - beautiful "quiet" pose and super tonal range
I think Kala looks great just as she is... No need for hamburgers.
And a lovely photo of her, great tonality and composition.
