Unfortunately the Linhof Camera Story Book details the 57 III and V but nothing about a 57 IV.

Bob... I know that's true on the 4x5's... but all the 5x7 tech IV's I've seen (photos or for real) have a front standard that only tilts backwards. I thought the full movement front didn't show up until the V on the 5x7's.

I haven't really found any big differences between the III's and IV's though, aside from the red stripes on the front standard, pretty much all of them being a tan color (leather and interior finish), the focus scale, and every one I've seen anyway coming with a back for standard holders (not the single sheet metal holders III's are sometimes set up for).

There's no forward tilt, so it must be a late Tech III. Question answered. Thanks.
For some reason I thought forward tilt came in with the V, not the IV.
I also have an early 5x7 III. No.21601. Offset folding optical finder & DRP DRGM on the back.
    Would that be war-time?
    regards
    Rob
DRP would be war time or before and a II or a Medezin. The III is post war.

You could be right but Linhof's book does not detail the IV other then a mention that it replaced the III and that the V replaced the IV. But no technical specs on the IV.
So if you know yours is a IV then you have the correct info.

Info on the IV's is rather tough to find, that's for sure!

I should measure the degree of movements some time,
and see if there's any change from a III.

    Thanks Bob-

    Hi Brian,
The accessory shoe & its number has been bothering me, but looking on the Bay there's an identical model with a similar low serial number...242XX or 262xx.
    http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/1808427482...84.m1423.l2649
    Also found a slightly earlier 57 with s/n 39810
    http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/1509350108...84.m1423.l2649
Seems like the some 57's have strange s/n's & my Tech is one of them
The supplied 210mm Symmar looks to be all original & Schneider date it to 1963. Would that be a similar vintage to your 57?
    regards
    Rob

Bob dated mine to 1960/61 before I think. So pretty close, yes.

    Bob,
    The other 57 I linked to is s/n 26268. Is that a listed s/n?

No, My lists show a Technika III series ending with #25331 and a Technika V series starting with 26765.

I will check my master file at work tomorrow to make sure that the missing numbers weren't left off the list that I work from.
