    Hi from Dublin

Hi,just joined and dropped in to say hello. I've been taking photo's for years, developing and printing for a few months, and have just ordered my first LF from the net. It's a Calumet CC401, looks in fine shape and hopefully is. I've been browsing the site for info but will no doubt be asking silly questions as soon as I get the beast. I have a couple of lenses,a 305 Ilex and a 90mm,I am aware that the camera I ordered has a longer bed than the usual and is designed for longer lenses, but can any one tell how short I can go,ie,will the 90mm focus ok ,if not, what lenght, above 150mm? I did say I'd ask silly questions Any tips on my model appreciated,
    cheers,Tommy.

Hi, Tommy. I know a few fine Irish photographers. One is a camera assistant on films and lives in Cork.

I think you should be able to focus a 90mm with that camera. It might require some gymnastics, since you'll have a lot of rail sticking out the back to avoid seeing it. You might try and look for a shorter rail so you have both options. A short rail for that camera can't be expensive.

What do you like to shoot?

Great cameras. Darned near indestructible and gives you about as close to unlimited movements as possible. Have fun with her!

Thank for the welcome Men. My preference is landscapes Christopher, although I will shoot anything, in fairness though I've been doing more darkroom work lately than taking pictures. It's still a big learning curve for me with film and learning to develop and print has opened up a whole new world for me,the icing on the cake will be shooting LF.

Large format really does bring something special to certain types of work and landscape is one of them. I'm looking forward to seeing some of your work. Ireland is one of the places I want to go in the fairly near future. I have a friend in Cork who promised to show me around those parts when I come.

    Hi Tommy,

Welcome from Co Wicklow! We have a nice group of analogue photographers who meet twice a year in Dublin. Very few of us, myself included, use LF. We definitely need more LF, so I'm glad you are stepping in. Have a look at the Ireland threads on APUG to find out about our get-togethers, and see you some time. Always happy to help.
