Check the backpacking stores for bags. They often have a polyurethane coating on the inside which might wear but are lightweight. If water resistant is okay, then a water repellant silicon spray on any nylon bag might be a good enough solution.

Thank you Jeff. I found a Hong Kong company that sells tripod bags on eBay. I ordered a bag for abt $40. I hope it to be a good match (according to dimensions, it should be.

Back in the 1990s before the new normal in security , (the good-old-days?) I shipped a larg-ish tripod as checked a bag in a container made from a section of PVC pipe. The container was ``4' long, 9"OD and had a handle on each end. On a previous trip I had a tripod in a bag that was damaged. This container was nearly bulit proof.

Before the plane pushed back, a baggage handler came into the passenger cabin to ask me what was in it. I told him what it was and how to open it if he wanted to . . . .but he just looked relieved and said it was OK . . .How times have changed!

There are only three types of mounting flanges; too big, too small and wrong thread!
