I have already a green safelight placed behind me at the side, making it easy to evaluate the negative on the base side. I know there are times you need to use transmitted light to see the highlights if they are few.

He evaluates the negative right in front of the lamp, a couple inches away. Is that normal? Should be at least 3 feet away? He uses a 7 1/2 W bulb, but is that dim enough? Looks very user friendly to do it this way though.

I use ABC Pyro myself.
