Josef Sudek at the Art Gallery of Ontario - Toronto

for those interested in LF and living in the Toronto area
another "not to miss" exhibition is coming to this city
the exhibtion officially doesn't start until Oct 3rd
but they had a member preview showing today
the extent of the images being shown is truly impressive
it was a joy to slowly walk through and admire each picture

the AGO has published a very well printed book which is
the catalog for the exhibition and it is 287 pages long
I have long been an admirer of Sudek and have several of his books
this is the best one I have seen
I expect it should be available on line in several weeks time

it is titled "josef Sudek: The Legacy of a Deeper Vision"
    and is published by Hirmer
Amazon already has it in their catalog
at a better price than I paid at the museum
    http://www.amazon.com/Josef-Sudek-Le.../dp/3777452912

here is the link for the exhibition

Thanks for the information. I doubt I will get to the show, but I pre-ordered the book.

Wow, I'd love to see that show! I have several books of his photographs. He was a WWI soldier, reluctantly. My grandfather was too but on "our side". He lost his arm in Italy but went on to make great images. I can only imagine how difficult that must have been. He died the same year as Paul Strand who also was in WWI but never went into combat, instead was an X-ray tech. Another great, Edward Steichen was a WWI veteran and WWII veteran and pioneered arial photography in the First World War.

Anyone within driving distance should go to this show. He is one of my favorites and I am always amazed at what he was able to accomplish with one arm off at the shoulder. There is a movie of him on the web, which shows him working. It is amazing. I'm sorry I don't know the link.
