yellowish light on Kienzle A 69 S enlarger

    Hello to you all,

I bought a Kienzle 6x9 enlarger on E bay recently. The enlarger has been modifie,d there is no rounded dome on top but a rectangular box with fan and 24 V halogen lamp. Being familiar with enlargers with an opal lamp, I can understand, that a halogen lamp is a better solution. The only problem is, that there is a yellowish flter in this lamp box. It canīt be removed. Before contacting Kienzle I would like to ask you all what the function of this filter is in a B&W enlarger. I have a lot of experience in B&w phtography but from a past age I think. My experience dates back from those baryt times. Despite this experience I havīnt the faintest idea of what this filter could be. The only guess I have is that it is part of af colour filter sytem. I appreciate what vcer help you could provide.

Perhaps the halogen light emits too much blue; the yellow filter will cut some of the blue light. This might be necessary for variable contrast paper.

There are very good multigrade papers on the market these days. The filter sets that go with these papers expect a certain 'color' of enlarger light as a starting point. Supposing someone is mixing and matching filter sets and papers from different manufacturers, you might imagine that additional yellow or blue filtration may be needed to obtain the required functionality of a filter set.

The most common use of yellow filter on this forum is addition of yellow to an older Aristo cold light when using Ilford Multigrade paper and filters.

    Hello
Thanks for the answers and the friendly words of welcome.
In those days when I worked in a phtography laboratory no one had ever heard of multigrade. Me neither, so it is just adjusting to more modern times.

    Thanks again
