Trying to detach 3047 head from 3221w tripod

Of course, if all you want is to make the assembly a little smaller, just take the center colum off the tripod and leave the head attached...

Trying to detach 3047 head from 3221w tripod

    Matt,

I had the exact same problem you describe last year. I removed the set screws, but the head wouldn't budge. I ended up using two pairs of pliers that opened wide enought to grasp the head and tripod mount (I used cloths so that I wouldn't damage the finish). Grasping them with the pliers, I mustered all my strength and was able to finally unscrew the head. With my bare hands, I just couldn't get a decent grip. Hope this helps.

Trying to detach 3047 head from 3221w tripod

FWIW - I had the same problem with a Bogen 438 levelling head and an Arca-Swiss B1. Luckily I work near Bogen's offices in Northern New Jersey and they removed the head at no charge (and fixed a broken spirit level at no charge).

I am soo glad to know that I am not the only Bogen user who is going crazy trying to remove this monster head .. omg .. I fought .. and i fought .. and finally went and bought a new tripod!!! Like someone else, I was simply trying to replace my head with another .. that monster thing is STILL affixed to the column as i could NOT figure it out short of completely disassembling the thing .. I was just a TAD frustrated .. so .. if I should try again, I will use the suggestions here .. or just throw the thing into the fireplace!!!

I think that once you've gotten that thing apart, you should use a little anti-seize compound on the threads before you put it back together. Next time it'll come apart right away.
