    Re: June 2012 Portraits

If you think my second post was a validation of the = gay, you have missed the point.
What I was trying to say that there are "rules" that have been written about. Don't show the hand, flat side. Break at the joints. Avoid keyholes and merges and poles coming out of heads. Don't pose men with a "feminine headtilt". And, in this case, that soft focus may not do as well for men.
Not a new discussion, but still a discussion that can be worth having (without the = gay).
But this thread is for portraits and I will leave it at that.

Neither of these photographers chose their technique just for this person. They all developed a technique, a style, a view of the world of their own. "Every photo you take is a self portrait" - the technique that you choose and the person who you choose to depict are two important parts of this.

Thank you Richard, much too kind-

I'm afraid that site needs a drastic overhaul, it's been neglected for a long time.

Yes, a Grubb Lens from Dublin, would be good to bring some of that home.
I've given up watching out for them, they're too expensive for me now...

New to wet plate, this is about plate #7 that I have done. 5x7 CGA, Hyatt 12" petzval on Deardorff V8, natural light 8s wide open. Working on all techniques - there are pouring, developing and varnishing issues, but slowly coming together.

Quite a lovely image, Luke79! All so well put together, but I think it's the white blouse that sets it off.
