    New55 instant 8x10 film possibility

Any of you see this- http://new55project.blogspot.com/201...t-8x10-pn.html
If you can make a 4x5 positive negative system that can be field processed that gives you a sharp negative and a balanced print, why not one for 8x10? Precisely that is being done, this one just from today's experiment at New55 conducted by 20x24 Studio's Nafis Azad, who muscled our Saltzman around with its 8x10 view camera into a position looking at a lot of 4x5 results we had posted.

Just like New55, less Polatrash is produced, but with four times the area and more acreage to process, this will be a boost that 8x10 photography has needed for a long time, as Polaroid didn't produce a monochrome 8x10 equivalent to T55. By we can. Stay tuned for more fun.

The 20x24 Studio folks say, "We would love to hear from as many 8x10 photographers as possible. We and New55 want to do this, the more input we have will help our decision immeasurably." (See http://www.facebook.com/20x24Studio)

Oh yes. New55 in 8x10 would be great. Actually, new55 in 4x5 would be nice.

I want to believe there will be a sustainable, new production of a quality product, available long-term.

However, the 20 X 24 studio is working with an old stock of Polaroid(?) paper, and mixing their own
new reagent chemicals for the process. Unless something has changed in the past couple of months
this presently means anything from 20 X 24, is probably only available in a very limited, finite quantity.
When that old stock of Polaroid product/paper runs out...what then?

Two heads are better then one!
It's nice to see 'The New 55 Project,' mentioned in the same breath as 'The 20 X 24 Studio.'
Again though, where is the 'sustainable' production of [quality] 'new' products?

    Hi Marc -

It's great to see your enthusiasm!

If we are successful in a crowd-funding through Kickstarter this Spring, we're still not guaranteed "sustainable production."

It would be excellent if the worldwide demand for a high-quality peel-apart instant 4x5 were strong enough to support the risks of forming a significant entity to produce sustainably, but we just don't know how many people will commit to it. A Kickstarter campaign is a good way to test this out.

We'll need over 1,000 people in North America, over 1,000 in Europe and at least 500 in Asia to get sufficient funding to finish specifying the components and funding the assembly machinery. A first run by our estimates would likely not be less than 5,000 boxes (a box would contain 5 sheets). Stay tuned for Kickstarter details.

The conversation about 8x10 is an exciting one and work will percolate in the background off and on, but the near-term focus is on getting New55 FILM (the 4x5) to the starting line.

Meanwhile, do let me know how I can help.
