    Palladium/Platinum Prints

    Greetings Fellow Photographers,

In all the time that I've been a photographer I have yet to see a Palladium/Platinum print up close and in person. Unfortunately, there aren't a lot of galleries here in Vancouver, British Columbia Canada that hold photographic exhibitions. I don't know why but there just aren't that many.

Does anyone know of any great websites/galleries (in our neck of the woods ie: Seattle, Washington) that hold photography exhibits on a regular basis. I've done a search on Google and have seen examples but they're just not like the "real" thing.

    Thanks in advance.

Call or e-mail Bostick & Sullivan in Santa Fe NM.

They are the major(?) supplier of Pt/Pl. materials in the U.S. and have a large network of photographers that they could point in your direction.

They have a web site: www.bostick-sullivan.com

    Good luck

Henry, there are 3 Ziatypes on display at the Heron's Nest on Vashon Island. They are gold-toned palladiotypes from 5x7 negs. I will email you separately with my phone number (they are my prints), I am coming up to Vancouver in the near future for a weekend, and perhaps we could meet somewhere. In Seattle, there's Flury & C0. (Edw Curtis platinum prints), (206) 578-0260) ,Benham Studio Gallery (occasional plat/pallad) (206) 622-2480, there may be others---Gail Gibson Gallery used to have a lot of Dick Arentz 12x20 platinotypes, but I don't see the gallery listed in the Yellow pages.

Henry - I suspect it is farther than you want to travel, but there is a nice show of Ernest Fokes palladium and platinum at the Lorinda Knight Gallery in Spokane Washington. Unfortunately, it looks like Saturday January 31 is the last day of the show. This gallery sometimes keeps artist's work in stock after an exhibit closes, so if you should get to Spokane months from now, it may worth checking.

    Hi All,

Thanks for the info... I'll follow up and do some research into these two processes.

Kallitype, thanks for the gallery info. I get down to Seattle every once in awhile and will try my best to stop by the galleries you mentioned. Yes, contact me and when you get up here...maybe we can tee up for coffee.

    Cheers

I'm late coming to this thread, but the Gail Gibson gallery in Seattle is still going AFAIK; here's the website:

    Hi Bill,

I've just received a really beautiful print from Roger H. and must say "it's pretty nice." Can you tell me what you don't like about this process?

Thanks Katharine for the link... I'll check it out.

    Cheers all!

Hi Henry, I've got nothing against platinum prints -- I just don't think that they're anything special compared to a good silver print.
