Street show observations, this past weekend.

I've done numerous street festivals over the years but only two now since last year and only two since 2000.

Although I did these shows as a wake up to my art- photography I found that: in general the quality- and diversity of the suppounding artists really where poor. Mostly potters, and jewelry makers. The Pottery I saw was rather plain, likewise the jewelry. This could be because this was a low dollar show given at a local rural venue. Or could be because people just don't buy 2D art like photography at shows anymore. < Past experience was I could sell works up to the 450 dollar range. But I did not sell even low dollar items at this particular local show. My question is- does anyone make money selling photography- beyond booth fees these days at the bigger venue craft festivals. Take care

I exhibit annualy at one local arts & crafts fair with thousands of visitors. Sales in recent years have dropped to where I hardly make expenses. However, the continued exposure is valuable, with some sales outside the fair. If I discontinued exhibiting, it would have an effect on future sales. Sales in exhibits in galleries and educational institutions have always been poor. Perhaps people consider these venues as free entertainment.
