It's a Polaroid so you know it has more integrity and coolness than regular old film, but it doesn't have as much integrity and coolness as wet plate would. Now if only I had done it with a cooler lens like a Verito or an Aero-Ektar, then it might approach the coolness of a wet plate... But then if I messed around with the emulsion on the Polaroid maybe I could make it better... maybe if I dunk it in coffee? Or do a lot of front tilt so that only her face is in focus? hmmm such problems....

Maybe I'll just go photographing instead?

Beautiful portrait Craig!! This ambrotype doesn't have the orange/yellow cast to it. Did you fix it in PMK? Really amazing pics on your web site too!

The warm 'coffee and cream' cast to plates can vary according to the fix your using eg. Potassium Cyanide, Sodium Thiosulphate etc with the latter being more grey than the cyanide. I've also found that if my cyanide is becoming exhausted it can contain more silver cyanide which can stain plates an even darker honey colour.

I try to make sure the scans are exactly as the plates appear. Nothing worse than someone walking into an exhibition of my work and then saying 'hang on, it doesn't look like that on his website'
