    Pyrocat Question

Not wanting to start the Pyro Wars again, will someone explain the advantages and disadvantages of Pyrocat HD verus Pyrocat MC?

I am moving from shuffling film in tray to tanks with hangers. Film used is 4x5 and 8x10 FP4+ and 8x10 X ray processed .in PMK.

    Thanks

    Re: Pyrocat Question

    Bill,

If you're not using rotary processing, you should consider Obsidian Aqua:

    Distilled water 70ml
    Potassium metabisulfite 2g
    Catechol 25g
    Distilled water to 100ml

Dilute 1:500 with 0.666% potassium carbonate solution

Lots of advantages over any of the Pyrocats:

    Re: Pyrocat Question

    Bill,
I'm also using trays and FP4+. If you want to try some 510-pyro, you're not too far from me and I have about 200 ml left before I make another batch.
I'll be mixing up some of the OA that Jay mentioned, but not sure when. I have all of the chemicals. I just have a few other things to complete from my TO DO list first.

    Re: Pyrocat Question

Bill, depends on how you are going to print as far as the dilution and time. I use 2:2:100 for about 6-8 minutes with my Efke-25 and 1:1: 100 with the x-ray film. Generally the x-ray can be from 4-8 minutes. Hope this helps.

    Bill,

Go to http://pyrocat-hd.com/, then the thread Pyrocat M Versus Pyrocat HD.

For your work there would not be any advantage, IMO, between the two.

    Re: Pyrocat Question

Tray processing of FP4 in 4x5 as worked well for several years. Moving to 8x10 in X-Ray didn’t work well. I purchased the 1 gallon size deep tanks from Richard Wasserman primarily for the x-ray film to address the scratch issue. I am slowing moving to carbon printing.

Some of the literature claimed Pyrocat negative will work for both sliver and alternative methods. That will allow me to print both.

Jay - At this stage I still prefer to buy chemical in kit form although eventually I will switch to mix my own and this one looks interesting.

Chris – Is this the summer for the “Nashville” get together?

Jim – Thanks for the starting points.

Sandy -Thanks for the web page link. I still want to do your carbon printing class.

    Re: Pyrocat Question

Bill, I understand. However, Artcraft Chemicals will make up any kind of kit you want -- just send them the ingredients and amounts.

Here is a an example of OA with 35mm Pan F+, handheld --
