Hmm...for something that's not photography, they bear an uncanny resemblance to actual photographs.

Given that Kodachrome's original ASA rating was around 10, I'd guess there was liberal use of flashbulbs.

Author, Cort Conley is working on a book about a river trip the National Geographic did in 1936 on the Salmon River of No Return. I talked with Cort last fall and he said there is about 1000 Kodachromes from that trip that he has access to and was in the process of choosing which ones to scan. He also has diaries from the trip. I hope the photo reproduction goes well, I've heard the early kodachromes had terrible color shifts.

Every time I see 4x5 Kodachrome reproductions I die a little inside.
