    Voigtlander Skopar 21cm Barrel Lens

I just acquired a Voigtlander Skopar 210mm Lens in Barrel. Does anyone know anything about this lens such as quality, value, coverage, etc... ? There is not much about them online. Thanks, Mike.

There are Skopar's and then there are Skopar's. Is it the coated APO Skopar f9? If it is, it is a heliar type, Ole will say Dynar, and you will find it perhaps the sharpest lens you own. They really are very nice.

If it's the old uncoated f4.5 Skopar, that is a rather ho-hum tessar type.

    Mike,

    http://www.cameraeccentric.com/html/...gtlandera.html

I have Apo-Skopar 30cm, 45cm and 75cm. The last one I have not got a chance to use yet. I like the image quality of Apo-Skopar a lot. Sharp, yet rich.

I know a few people here own and like this lens. Jim Galli for example.

For a 210mm Apo-Skopar in barrel, I think it is worth $150-250 depending on the condition. I have seen it listed for $300-400 range, but that is overpriced. There is a nice Apo-Skopar 30cm on the ebay asking for $399 with a wooden box.

    Hi Hugo,

do you really have a 75cm Apo-skopar? I thought they were only made up to 60cm (as shown in the camera eccentric literature).

I also have 45 and 60 cm apo-skopars and find them to be great lenses.

sounds like the lens in question from the original thread is a "plain old" tessar type skopar. I have one of these (24cm, f4.5) but havent used it much.

    cheers

    Tim,

Apo-Skopar 75cm is not their literature, indeed. Much bigger than the 60cm. I might have to have a camera built for it.

Sometimes the lens manufacturers don't put all their lenses in their literature. I have an Xenotar lens I couldn't find any information.

    Cheers

    btw, for Mike,

the 21cm skopar should cover 5x7 reasonably well and be an OK general purpose lens. Not worth too much (I paid about $25 for my 24cm skopar).

very cool, do you happen to have a picture of it you can post? Also, I'm curious when it was made, can you provide an approximate serial number?

I'll bet it weighs a ton, the 60CM is heavy enough...

    thanks

    Thanks Hugo!

I finally did manage to find a reference for the 75 cm Apo Skopar in a Japanese book on Voigtlander of all places!

    I'm still looking for a real-life 60 CM Heliar...

    cheers

    Tim,

I have never heard or seen a 60cm Heliar. My little 42cm Heliar weights a little under 10 Ibs and I have seen reports of 48cm Heliar weighting 12-14 Ibs.

Are you there is beast like that?
