    Street, Candid, Journalism

Street photography style - you know, no direction given to the subjects. Get your Speed Graphic ready.

This is the first shot taken with my 4x5 Pacemaker Speed Graphic after I got it fifteen years ago (my wife bought it for me as a gift). I was so excited that I took it with me to lunch with a friend. She was very patient with me wielding this huge camera at the table. Shot with the Kalart rangefinder for focusing and the top viewfinder for framing. T-Max 100 with a 152mm f/4.5 Ektar wide open. Blur from being handheld. Focus is pretty well calibrated.

I still love the camera but I wish I could recapture the excitement that led me to take it with me everywhere in the trunk of my car back then. I should do that again.

Here is Aung San Suu Kyi campaigning on March 22. Although most of the time she is smiling, she is 66, and some of the constant pressure of the campaign is evident in this shot. The day after this she suspended her campaign for several days due to sickness and fatigue. I just plugged my 120v Epson scanner into a 220v outlet, so this crappy scan was made on a combo printer/scanner (Sorry about that). Shanghai 100, shot in a hand-held Ikeda Anba with a Caltar (Rodenstock) 210, and developed in D23 in a hotel bathroom.
