    omega D5500 to 8x10?

Hello All, I have an Omega D5500 chasis with an inoperable Ilford MG500 head system. Does anyone out there know of any options to upgrade the chasis to work with a non condenser 8x10? I love my little contacts but can't fight the urge to enlarge. Any thoughts would be much obliged.

    Many thanks, Eck Wheeler

Eck - I think the most likely light source for what you are considering is an Aristo cold light. On this page: http://www.aristogrid.com/prod02C.htm the model 810 seems to be the smallest size 8X10 light. You can measure to see if this light can be centered on top of your enlarger without hitting the enlarger column. Also note the 13.8 lbs. weight of the unit. You might be able to experiment with adding this much weight on top of your enlarger and see how it handles it. I first heard of converting a 4X5 Beseler to 8X10 from Howard Bond many years ago. He made an adapter box from wood to hold the light and negative carrier. So you don't have to have anything really high tech to be workable. The important thing is you have room enough for the light source. No doubt you will want to brace the top of your enlarger column to the wall to make it more stable.
