    Missing Pyro Formula Ingredient

So...I think my wife threw out my latest Viewcamera issue (Grrrrr.)

There was an article that got my attention. It was discussing a simple pyro formula. I can't remember the formula though. I'm pretty sure it was just one other chemical.

If someone can remind me what the formula was and perhaps the baseline times, I would greatly appreciate it.

Also, I'd like to throw something of hers out too. Any suggestions?

Your wife obviously has better taste than mine – who actually buys my subscription.

    Simple Pyro? (Idiot's pyro) = pyrogallol (4 - 5 g/l) + TEA (triethlyomine 8 - 10 g/l) + dash of sulfite (1/2 g/l) @ 70ºF.

    EFKE 25
    (N–1) 4m
    (N) 6m
    (N+1) 10

    EFKE 50
    (N–1) 4m
    (N) 7m
    (N+1) 12m

    EFKE 25
    (N–1) 6m
    (N) 9m
    (N+1) 14m

    HP5+ 400
    (N) 11m

    Tri-X 260
    (N) 10m

    Tmax 400
    (N) 10m

(assuming I read Hutchings' placement–exposure table correctly)

I don't have it in front of me at the moment, but there's a PDF in the subscriber's section of VC's website for download. At least as of today.

    Re: Missing Pyro Formula Ingredient

Pat Gainer published the following, several years ago-

    Pyro TEA

    TEA 100ml
    Pyrogallol 7g

And I suggested, also years ago, that a little ascorbic acid controls the stain. Ascorbic acid, unlike sulfite, dissolves in TEA.

This "Simple Pyro/ Idiot's Pyro" is a downgrade from the existing formulas from which it was derived.

ROL, by any chance do you mean: Triethanolamine?

I'm not ROL, but yes... TEA is the abbreviation of Triethanolamine.

I cannot help with the pyro formula, but I might suggest your wife throw her husband out....

I'm not ROL either, but I gave you verbatim what is in the Hutchings' published article.

Were the two different dev times for the two Efke 25s verbatim also, or was one of those intended to be Efke 100?
