Can we please get the old Search function back?

To the Owner and the Moderators, thanks for the updated format! Seems to work on my iPhone (where the old one didn't).

One problem, though, is the new Search function.

Where the old format allowed the search results to be shown both as by Thread/Topic and by specific post (i.e. there was a preview window showing the highlighted key words in situ within the Thread), the new one only shows the Thread/Topic.

This is a major deficiency; if your key word(s) are in, for example, the Large Format Landscape thread, you have to trawl through potentially over 4500 posting to find the search hit.

I've looked high and low for the old viewing option here, but couldn't find it. Any chance it can be changed to have the old style search results on the new format?

    Thanks.
    Lachlan.

I just looked at the Advanced Search page.

Under the Search Single Content Type tab, near the bottom is a pair of radio buttons under the heading
"Show Results as" with Threads and Posts being the options.

Many thanks, Leigh. However, I can't find them!

You (I) have to click on the Search Single Content Type tab. I see the same screen that you show if I fail to do that.

Apparently the Search Multiple Content Types tab is the active default, although it doesn't tell you that.

Unfortunately the "advanced" search has regressed to something less advanced. I too would like to be able to search as we could before; one or 2 or however many specific areas, and not pull in results from the entire site/forum. Icons in the message creation box here are pretty though!

Re: Can we please get the old Search function back?

I used to be able to click on search, advanced search, and put in my username, and it would show threads that I'd posted into, sorted by freshness of the thread. Sort of a way to view activity of threads I'd been participating in.

With the new upgrade, that's not available so easily, at least that method. It shows the threads I've started. It's different than the "find latest posts" thing in your profile too.

I was able to replicate the old way... In the forums, click on "New Posts", then click on "Search:", not "Search". Then I am able to enter my username, select "Find Latest Posts by User", select the time period, and search. It's a lot more work, but it's works. The upside of all this work, is that it works in APUG too. I was not able to do that particular search before. And GUIs are supposed to be easy?

Does there happen to be a way to set the font coloring for heading emphasis on an individual basis? The old format was much more pleasant inasmuch as the headings were bright, clear, and distinct. Thanks.

Okay. I found a setting adjustment that helps, but apparently none of the settings return to the simple look of the original.

Re: Can we please get the old Search function back?

One more "Am I stupid, or what?" question: I used to be able to select one forum and limit the search to posts within that one forum. I don't see how to do that now. Can anyone enlighten me?
