    question about kodak 2D back

disassembling the camera today.. i noticed something I couldn't figure out.
on the rear camera back, on the inside of the film plane/ground glass, there's a slot routed out the horizontal slots in one plane, the vertical in another. On one side of each of the horizontal and vertical, there's a spring inside the slot (as if to hold something in under tension.

    What were these used for?

These are for removable splitter board or slider boards, ie to expose one half of the film area at a time.
