    Show your Beautiful Volute Shutters

I love Bausch & Lomb's early Volute shutters! Do you? Post your pics of them, if you like.

Looks good, thanks Steve. How large is your Volute on the upper right? I'm trying to figure out the sizes. Most catalogs only list 3 sizes. So I assume the biggest is a No. 3. But I've seen a few references to a No. 5, mostly on forums. Here's a little clearer shot of the above, I used a tiny petzval for the first shot for "effect!"

Goa, your lenses marked "Double Anastigmat" are pre 1904, the year they went to the Dagor acronym. The Volute shutter was introduced in 1902. The two most attractive shutters made, IMO, are the Volute and the Koilos. That's a nice set of glass you have

I never appreciated these shutters until I saw one in person and held it in my hand. They are truly beautiful pieces of machinery.

Thanks. I like the Prosch shutters too, but don't want to digress. Here's a picture of my Protar in a Volute.

I like their old timey ad where the Volute is on the front of a steam engine where the 2 cylinders correspond to the steam chest on a locy. Anyone got a copy?

1ST Baby Deardorff w Volute. I shot this years ago and the Volute is packed away. But its a WA Dagor. Marked WA DAGOR. I played with it to get it close in its speed range. It takes really nice pics. The neatest thing about them is the simplicity of the design. The acid etched face is so pretty. I have a fairly large collection of them being a repair person. I only saw one in a large size. A 5 that was gold. Anyothers ever see unusual Volutes?

Re: Show your Beautiful Volute Shutters

The Conley and Protar are in the same size Volute, it's the largest one. I think maybe #5?

BTW, some people give them a bad rap, but I love mine. They all work perfectly, and a 1, 2, and 3 second time is truly nice.

    Cheers, Steve
