    Eddie,
I look forward to getting back up there. I was fascinated by the old canal system next to that antique store you took me in.
The old mill was pretty cool too.
Make your way down to Tennessee someday so I can play tour guide!

greg..thanks for the tip..I will look out for it. Went for a spin in spite of the snow, but driving is difficult.

Luckily the forecast predicts better weather over the next 2-3 days...

This is why God invented snow tires. Last winter, when New York City got two blizzards in a row, it was hilarious to watch people driving (or rather not) with "all weather" tires, no sand in the trunk, no shovel, no nothing.

Not far north of you there is this place called Quebec where snow tires in winter are mandatory. For some reason, the weather does not respect the border

Surprised. Studs, if necessary, should do it for most situations.

Eddie, I thought that you have me, as you have said repeatedly, on ignore.

    Avi,

More seriously, if you are driving around upper New York State without snow tires, you should spring for them if you don't have them already. It isn't just that driving without them is "difficult", but more importantly that it is a fairly major safety issue. If you are using snow tires, and still find it difficult, look into studs.

Sorry if you know all this already; just picking up on the fact that you say that you just moved from Georgia and found driving yesterday difficult. We had some snow yesterday, but not that much. Figure on more, and more in one shot, before the winter is over.

i too his advice last week and took everyone off of ignore.....ssshhhhh! do not tell johnielvis.

i find the chains to be far cheaper (needing only one wet of tires. and/or no need to installation and removal of studs) . i only need them for my driveway, a handful of times per year......mostly when i am too lazy to shovel it (only a path for each tire) or too cheap to pay the plow operator. it is long and steep......we got 8 inches.

you are right....I know as much about driving in the snow as you guys know about sun bathing !!

But, I will look into chains definitely. Today appears to be a sunny day. I shall go out.

    Thanks a lot folks.

    Greg,

Went to the Moodna Viaduct today...it was beautiful! Very nice drive too. Only thing though was I could not find a good spot to park, so I ended up standing by the road and quickly shooting with my Pentax 645......unfortunately could not take out my Speed thanks to the cars...

Thanks a lot for the tip.
