    South lake Tahoe in March

I have the opportunity to be in South Lake Tahoe at the end of March. What can I expect to photograph there? Will there be snow? Should I even bother bringing my gear or just hit the casinos?

I really like shooting around Lake Tahoe. You can take a gondola part way up to the top of Heavanly Valley. If there is still snow take your kit sking up to the summit. If you have something handheld like a speeder, take it on the zip-line. There is plenty of other great locations around Tahoe---rent a car and drive around the lake. There is also Virginia City and Genoa nearby. Take a boat to Vikingsholm. If you're there on a Friday, check out the seafood buffet at Harrahs.
There are plenty of places to explore.
Its a fun place, even during mud season!

The way things are going vis a vie rain, who knows...but, more than likely, winter will come quite nicely in February, painting it all white. I like the other John's suggestions...a few others: above the boat, up on the road, it the rather cliche (but beautiful) shot of Eagle Falls going down into Emerald Bay; around the corner is Sugar Pine Point St. Park, which has some nice coastline and a cool old buildings/lodges/mansions; finally, if you're up for a 30 minute drive, Hope Valley is as scenic as it gets, especially in winter. Take the road past Sorensen's resort to the south, and you'll get a few miles of enormous granite/ore canyons on the way to Markleville.
Or you can go right, heading toward Kirkwood: as soon as you start to rise up off the valley floor, pull over anyway and shoot south/southeast...lotsa good spots. Also, there a nice trail up to a hill right smack dab in the center of the valley, which, of course, gives great views 360.

Thanks to both of you. I'm taking notes of the sites you mentioned. I truly hope it will not be as muddy as it seems. I see enough of that where I live. :-(
My kids are hoping for snow and my wife is hoping for a clear road to the rental home. I'm hoping for sometime to play with my cameras. Should I bring my 4x5 or my medium format?

Your kids will probably like Zak's Fries at the old Kirkwood Cabin at Kirkwood Ski resort.

Weather: it's hard to say what it will be like in march. We have had no rain or snow for months. Usually in years like this, we have heavy precipitation in febuary and march.

As long the main roads are cleared. That's all I ask. My wife would like it if there was now snow and my kids 24 inches would do.
