I heard a similar comment - Calumet might buy them out. If that's what happens, it would be a great development, as Calumet has staying power, and it would definitely mean the rental department would survive. However, I don't see them keeping more than two locations, and probably they'd keep only one. That was part of Penn's problem- they oversaturated a local market with too many locations.

That will be great for this town!! A single big store will serve well the area. Let's hope it happens.

per WTOP this a.m. Calumet is coming to town...3 stores --DC/Tysons/Rockville -- official as of Monday 2/13 but (per a current Mgr in one of their stores) there will be a week of face-lifting so Calumet can put their mark in these stores.

    That's good news.

    Calumet is a big operation.

For the LF photographer a Calumet store is nothing to cheer about. Now I've only been to the Phily location and it was 3 years ago, but at that time there was exactly 4shelves each about 6 ft long dedicated to analog photography. I inquired if they had ANY LF gear and the answer was no. I believe they had some 4x5 Tri-X film, but that was it. If you were looking for a camera bag or studio lights then this was the place to shop, but for a landscape oriented LF photographer it was a huge disappointment.

Well, it's small comfort, but you can get them to order stuff in from the Calumet catalog, which is pretty extensive. I'm just glad they're still around at all.

Yeah, I'll still be able to buy 120 film without having to order it online. That in itself is a lot of comfort. Nothing small about it. Dare I to even hope that they might start stocking sheet film again?
