105mm - Image circle ?

Is there a typical image circle for 105mm lenses, used on 6x9 folder cameras ? As these have the possibility to set the distance, maybe they can be used on a home-made 4x5 hobo with this added capability ?

They typically cover 6x9, but the exact coverage depends on the lens prescription.

Lenses fitted to fixed lens 2x3 folders are typically triplets or tessar types. They won't stretch to 4x5.

Y'know, there are many people looking for inexpensive wide angle lenses for 4x5. That they're not using normal lenses for 2x3 is a hint.

the 105 tominon (cheap!--found on polaroid close up cameras) WILL hit the corners on 4x5 but it is visibly less sharp than the center of the image....it's a close up lens, so it actually IS a 4x5 lens but for longer bellows/closeup work---so if your hobo is set for a distance of 3 feet maybe...you can get probably decent results....

I have a 105/4.5 Tominon. I paid about $50 for it. It definitely illuminates 4x5 (or is that 5x4? ) at infinity. It's definitely soft outside the center. It definitely makes a splendid close-up lens for 4x5, that's what I use it for.

You can look up the image circle size for some 105mm lenses on the LF lens comparison charts.

The Fujinon 105mm covers 6x17cm, so it will have ample coverage for both 4x5.

and have a look 100mm & 105mm image circle go from 114 to 143 mm but for a 4x5 you need a 165mm image circle

But it isn't a normal lens for 2x3 from a fixed lens 2x3 folder, and that's what the OP asked about. There are many 4" and shorter lenses that will cover 4x5 with room for considerable movements, but they don't typically come on a fixed lens 2x3 folder.

The Fujinon lens that is capable of covering 6x17 is the f8 105SW. A lens that's designed to cover a wide angle and has a 250mm image circle. SW stands for super wide.

The Op is referring to a 105W. A "normal" lens that has a smaller image circle and will not cover 4x5.
