    December 2011 portraits

    I'll start.
I regard this more of a portrait than a nude...

    Sigrid. Painted with light.

    Pol 665 pos/neg - slightly solarized.

Already posted this in the recent "Future of Photography" thread to make a point, but it seems more appropriate here. Taken last week. T-Max 100 4x5 (expired in 1998) in HC-110 dil. H for 9 minutes. Scanned from the negative and slightly cropped.

Frank, that is inventive and great fun. A part of me wants to know whether the graffitti was made for the photograph, but a part of me doesn't want to know. If this and most of your work is shot in the Rochester area, it is quite amazing that you manage to find people who will go along. If you haven't already, you should maybe take a photo trip to Montreal - although I suspect that you have done that, and already have Montreal on the digital equivalent of a Rolodex

Almost all of the portraits in this monthly thread look like they were made 50 to 150 years ago. Then there's the ridiculous mantra on this forum that the quality of a photograph should be judged on whether it has full tonal gradation. Never mind that these photographs with perfect tonal gradation, whether of a person, a flower, a landscape or a leaf, have no apparent content.

It is a pleasure to see an occasional portrait here that seems connected to the fact that we are about to be 12 years into the 21st century.

No, I don't do graffiti, we were just going by and stopped. He's gay so it's even more fake.
