One trick with white, is to have a variety of white shades. Another method, is to use some black, so that light gray appears to be white by comparison. This lighthouse looks "white" to the eyes - but only from a distance. Close up, it has to be presented as light gray with some white sections for accent. Otherwise, it will look blank.
