Kav, really like the photo! Personally I would use a stronger filter, maybe 1 or 1.5 up from what you used, and print it lighter. The blacks look rich and full but the high values are a little anemic.
Haven't done a compass swing, but I did get to do externals. (shot with digital and 35mm. Far to much wind for anything with bellows) This week I'm setting up for a end of the year blow out gun shoot. I've already loaded the holders and have a healthy stock of flashbulbs for it. One of the nice things of working on these aircraft is that I have full support of the command for photography and my fellow Marines have grown used to me lugging around big cameras and even bigger cases. So I can get very natural photos of them.
Thanks for the suggestions. I will give reprinting it a go. Work like it so much they would like a larger version. But they will have to wait until I can find a 4x5 enlarger. Right now I'm trying to figure out how to get better B&W prints from some color negatives like this one:

My issue is that I hand developed these photos while I was still in Africa without hot (or running for that matter) water. So I'm just happy I have something to work with.
Kav are you a crew chief? I am amazed there is another Marine around that shoot LF.
Nope, I'm the Ordnance Chief for my squadron and basically the squadron photographer. I also have been able to work with other units. Normally what happens is that I'm working with my squadron and one of the units we are supporting gets a few photos of them and asks if I can work with them for a bit. The funny thing to me is that the military has plenty of great photographers that work full time as photographers. But for some reason they like using me. As far as shooting LF goes I've found that most of the time Marines like having there photo taken with the press cameras more then with digital or 35mm.
