    Ken,

Thanks for starting this thread. So far some great square images from you, Galdolfi and especially Valdecus. I don't think I've ever cropped a LF image to square, until this one inspired by your post. This is from last week and the square just seems to work for me.

Shot with 210mm lens, red filter at f/5.6 on 4x5 Arista EDU Ultra 100 in Rodinal 1+100.

Jim - and it works fine!

I showed my square negative as a full negative (no crop), but I crop all the time.

I am refusing to be restricted on what others have decided to be a format...

Square - panoramic - round and so on...

Emil - exactly - and it's your approach to the medium as a whole which is so damn refreshing, not that there aren't other talented artists on this forum, too

That's a very nice shot, Jim. I've never used Arista film, but perhaps I should try it.

As a long-time Hasselblad shooter, square format does not seem at all odd to me.

Thanks Gandolfi. I may have to free myself from the bonds...

    Ken,

Thanks for the comments. I'm personally torn on this one, but I guess I liked it enough to post it. It's unbalanced, but I'm not sure if that's what I like about it or what I dislike about it.

I shot with only a Hasselblad for many years, the square is a very rich format for me.
In re. cropping, I don't, but I'll make exceptions when printing a portfolio, for the sake of layout and flow.
This is an image begging to be cropped as the top and bottom were completely black areas.

    Leigh,

    THanks for the kind words.

Arista Edu Ultra 100 is a very contrasty film and good mostly for tonally flat subjects. This was a stretch and combined with the dilute Rodinal and almost a 1 stop push, it gave me some nice texture.

Re: Post Your Square LF Images

On reflection, it seems that the square format makes certain design elements stand our more, because the corners and the edges are closer. Ari's excellent image makes it clear to me anyhow. The only format which would have more corners and (proportionately) less center, would be a triangle.
