Norman 400b and Wein Ultraslave SSL?

I have a Norman 400b and just bought a Wein Ultraslave SSL with H-prong foot. I plugged the slave into the head and fired a flashgun at it thinking it would just work........but it doesn't!

Has anybody else tried this combo and got it to work? Maybe I have a dud SSL?

If the 400b works with a sync cord, then the slave must be bad...
I have a couple of 200b sets, but I usually just use them with radio triggers.

Does it matter if the prongs are +/- or -/+ ?

Did you try turning the slave upside-down and plugging in the other way?

Does the flash definitely work with a normal plug?

Have you tried using an extension?

Can you test the slave on anything else?

It does on my Speedotron Black Line. It will only fire in one orientation. And the fifty-fifty-ninety rule specifically dictates that I will insert it the other way every time.

Thanks for your replies. I tried it the other way around and it still doesn't work. I can trigger the 400b with a sync lead so I guess it's a duff Wein SSL.
