    Re: Paper negatives

Wayne, paper negs are one of those things where its really worthwhile doing some speed testing to find a personal ei.
I know of people who rate mgiv rc at 25 and get good negs. If I tried that, I'd get a blank sheet of paper - I generally have to rate mine at about 2!
Plus remember if you are using vc, the light (colour temperature) can have an impact on speed even outdoors.
But definitely worth persevering with, I think .

Oh I've by no means given up. I expected plenty of trial and error would be necessary. I'd just prefer to use old fiber based paper that's been sitting around for years rather than the small amount of fresh RC paper I have, because there are no new paper purchases in my near future. I just didnt take into account that warmtone paper is even slower

I once did some trials with some cheap RC VC paper and I think I rated it at iso 2. Got usable results, although a but contrasty to print them as contacts. Worked alright for scanning though.

    Excellent work everyone; it's inspirational!

This was just meant to be a pre-flashing trial, but I like how the image turned out.

    Re: Paper negatives

I make paper negatives all the time, both in my studio and on location. I also use them to teach in workshops and I encourage students to experiment extensively with them as paper, not film does not cost a lot and allows learning even through mistakes. Also paper negatives are easier to handle for most students in a darkroom.
Here some examples of my paper negatives.

I'm not up to stomping around outside today, so I pestered Isabelle Adjani until she let me take her photo.

Chamonix 10x8, Kenthene grade 2 glossy RC paper, Nikkor-M 300mm/f9, exposed at f32, five seconds preflash through a sheet of white paper, then 15 seconds of the subject, Ilford Multigrade developer, Epson V850 scan:

    Re: Paper negatives

Well the third try was the charm. In fact I'm so charmed by the negative I don't really want to make a positive which I'm sure will be anticlimactic. Ilford warmtone 7.5 minutes @ f 16 developed normally in Ilford Multigrade

Can I make duplicates of the negative from a positive or will I just condense the scale twice doing that? I'd kinda like to make a bunch to experiment with various manual alterations

    I have serious dust problems.
