The mighty Edsel surveys lesser (but still-mobile) vehicles below on the highway. A lot of people slow down and do a double-take, some stop and gawk, others like me spend a day there.

This is from awhile ago...a trip to calif. which included a visit to Bodie. I've recently enlarged this image to 30x40 (darkroom print) for my current exhibit in Rockland, Maine.

Data: Early Layton Prototype (Pre-L1/L45A), 210 Sironar-N, FP4 in PMK.
    Edit: I used a 90mm 6.8 Grandagon for this image, not a 210! Sorry!

I very much like the juxtaposition, John.

    John L,

Your Bodie shot is great, but we have a Bodie too here in Washington. Try it next time you come west. I think this was a hotel:

OOPS! Lens used for my Bodie image was a 90mm 6.8 Grandagon, NOT the 210. Sorry!

Again from the Idaho stone quarry, here's the truck that really got me excited. It's from neighboring Heron, MT and poses on top of a 40' pedestal of small rocks. For this exposure I shot from the base with a 360mm lens on Rollei infrared 4x5 film. By that time in the afternoon I had been in this 99 degree quarry for 6 hours and could barely stagger around; I consider myself lucky to get this. This is scanned from an Ilford print (Please disregard some smears in the sky that are from smears internal to my scanner.)

I dragged my Toyo halfway up the rock pile and tried also with the 150 mm lens, again on Rollei film. Then I staggered out, truly fried by the heat that day.

I like this unusual composition. It's graphically strong and appeals to the car buff too.
