    Tri-pod heads

This should be an easy question. Do Gitzo tri-pod heads fit on Bogan/Manfrotto center posts? I've never actually owned or handled a tri-pod other than the Bogans I've had forever, so I'm pretty clueless.

I'm looking at a Gitzo G1570M with the large platform for the 8x10 I recently acquired, or when I'm planning on using my big 300mm/4.5 on my 4x5. Just wondering if I can utilize my existing legs and the extra extra center post I have, or if I'd need to get a complete Gitzo set-up for it.

It should work. The base of the Gitzo head will be a bigger diameter than one from Manfrotto, but since both the top of the center post and the bottom of the Gitzo head are both flat, it shouldn't be a problem. I have an earlier version of that head, and it's very good with the big cameras.

Bogens have reversible studs for both 3/8" and 1/4" fittings. Presuming the tripod itself is stable there's no problem setting them up as a pair.
