Old Buildings for 2011

Thought I would start a new thread because these photos really don't belong anywhere else. Let's share some photos of some old decrepit buildings whether in ruin or still in use. I really like the textures of old peeling paint and weathered wood. Throw in some metal and glass and you get all kinds of possibilities.

These three pictures are from a local grainery that is actually still in business, despite the rough look of the place. I have some other photos from the same place that have been posted in the "Industry" thread and forgive me, but I'm going to re-post one of them here so it can be with like photos. I'm also experimenting with the Arista film.

The first (the repeat) is on 4x5 Arista Edu Ultra using an 8 1/4" Wollensak Velostigmat II in a Betax shutter at f/32. I really like the old wavy glass in the windows. They make for some cool reflections.



This second one is also on Arista using a Nikkor 300M @ f/45.



The window panes below are also on Arista, but shot with a 210 Apo Symmar at f/22.

Quiet thread! Preston, I like the leaning doors in the almost square building.

Technically, these are from 2010, back in October, but I only just had them scanned. Does that count?

These pictures of an old, 1870s apartment building are from a documentation project in Maine, back in October (technically, that makes them 2010 images, but I only just had them scanned; does that count?). For the exterior view, yes, my camera was quite level; its the building that was leaning! There are some good reasons that the building will be demolished.

In its day, though, it was pretty impressive, with double parlors in every apartment, and other very nice appointments. Its in pretty bad shape, but its still sad to see it go.

I also just had this one scanned, from a volunteer documentation project that I did last March. It is a wonderful little Gothic Revival cottage in one of the less salubrious neighborhoods in Syracuse--choc-a-bloc filled with architectural gems like this one, and mostly pretty well deteriorated, as this one is. This poor building has been on the chopping block for a while, but no action as yet.
