    December 2010 Portraits

Well this is scanned in December at least....

This is one of my first portraits, done in 1983, of Olympic medalist Nordic skier Bill Koch in Eugene, Oregon. I blew the shot, it was dim and I didn't know what I was doing -- this is the best I can salvage it. I was embarrassed so I never gave him any photos. If anyone has his email kindly let me know as I have some semi-blurry 4x5 family photos for him too.

27 years later they don't seem that bad, I could always claim it was the special Flourderagon lens "look".

My birthday's next week; at nelsonfoto.com, it's customary to post a birthday self portrait. I started trying my hand at large format self portraits today:

For those of you who can do this, I'm in awe. This was a Seneca Competitor with 4x5 Graflok and a Darlot Hemispherique Rapide #2. I have a long way to go...

This is a shamefully awful temporary scan.

This one might actually work pretty well as an alt process print via inkjet interneg, or a straight inkjet printed at a lowish dpi setting.

First large format portrait. Taken with a 5X7 Dorff purchased on this forum last month. Lens is a 210 Symmar-S. Criticisms of the photo are welcomed. Criticism of the model are unacceptable, as we've been married for 38 years.

Today's attempt at self-portraiture. I think I'm gaining ground, but would welcome any constructive opinions:

Scott, the exposure seems dead on. I'd like to see the light on the other side, though.

Hey Scott, looks very nice. You might try a stool as I find the back of the chair distracting, especially the plaid upholstery.
